The Figgs
Hit CMJ Top Ten With Capitol Records Debut
Banda Macho
The
Figgs, who made their Capitol Records debut last
month (July 9th) with Banda
Macho, moved
seven spots to the #10 slot this week on CMJ’s Radio Top 200
records. The first single off the record, “Girl, Kill Your Boyfriend,” was
sent to Commercial Alternative this week as the band prepare to hit the road in
September with fellow label mates Smoking Popes and Jimmy Eat World. The tour,
which is entitled, “God Bless America,” and is sponsored by Rolling Stone Magazine and Calvin Klein
Cosmetics Company, will run for two weeks beginning in New York City on
September 7th. The band recently completed a national tour on The Vans Warped
Tour ‘96, which included Fishbone, CIV, Pennywise, NOFX and Rocket From The
Crypt, among others.
Banda Macho is The Figgs’ sophomore release.
In 1994, the band released their Imago Records debut, Low-Fi At Society High, which received critical praise from
the media, and the single, “Favorite Shirt,” became a favorite on both
Commercial Alternative and College Radio stations.
Banda Macho was recorded and produced by Eric Rachel and The Figgs, and a few tracks were mixed by David Kahne (The Presidents of The United States of America,
Fishbone, Bangles). The Saratoga Springs quartet includes Mike Gent
(vocals/guitar), Pete Donnelly (vocals/bass), Guy Lyons (vocals/guitar) and
Pete Hayes (drums).
A press release is attached with more information and tour dates for the “God
Bless America” tour.
